Every year, multiple children from the Foundation are offered the opportunity to travel abroad and share their testimonies. These opportunities are a once-in-a- lifetime event for the children. The tours not only allow Lighthouse to spread awareness of Nepal and its work but also to showcase to the world the unique culture, traditions and customs of the Nepali people.
We celebrated another year of success and achievement for LHFN, on 6th Children’s Annual Day which was held at the Nepal Academy Hall on the 31st December, 2015. More than 1000 people gathered including all our children for the grand celebration. This included parliamentary & government dignitaries along with national and international media personalities and was presided by our chief guest, the Peace & Reconstruction Minister, Mr. Eknath Dhakal. We were given a letter of appreciation by our honorable Furmer Prime Minister of Nepal Mr. K.P. Sharma Oli at the program.
Light's House Foundation has purchased a (20 ropanies and 3 anas) three-acre plot of land in Sankhu where the construction for new hostel buildings will take place. Our vision is to see that the majority of the hostels will relocate to this land and create a village community. An environment will be created to ensure that the children feel safe, secure and loved but also challenges them to continue to better themselves and dream big futures for themselves, along with their families and their villages. It is a magnifi cent opportunity to create a culture of comradeship, togetherness, love and of course fun.
In 2016, three crops of potatoes have been harvested, which were distributed amongst all ten hostels. All the children were able to taste the fi rst batch of vegetables grown by Lighthouse Foundation. It was rewarding to see them enjoying the fruit’s of our farmer, Bikram’slabour. Tomatoes, lady fi ngers, beans, spinach, lettuce, ginger and peas have also been grown. Currently, corn crops are growing.
